Objective With the view of clinical applied anatomy, the distribution patterns of the veins of the hand were analyzed. Methods Erosive casts of different colors in arteries and veins of the hand were made by filling material of chlorinated polyvinyl chloride solution in ethyl acetate into six freshly amputated forearms. Results The venae profundae, the majority of which had small calibers, always accompanied the relevant arteries. The venae superficialis didn't accompany any named arteries. The veins at the palmar aspect had small calibers and coursed irregularly. The veins at the dorsal aspect had large calibers and regular patterns of their courses. Conclusions The venae profundae in the hand has no value in surgical anastomosis, except the arcus palmaris profundus and venae metacarpeae palmares. Rete venosum dorsale manus is often used for surgical anastomosis, while rete venosum palmar manus has no clinical value for anastomosis.
