摘要
《无名的裘德》中意象和对比及其在叙事过程中的相互回应,一方面理性而含蓄地赋予小说中的事件、人物及其价值观以象征性的评判,使小说的逻辑叙事更加密集,小说层次更加丰富;另一方面,所有这些意象、对比的象征性运用,同时表达了哈代的哲学思想和价值观,即上帝或操纵宇宙的力量对人及其命运的漠视以及现代社会的躁动性。
An analysis of the symbolical use of image and contrast in Jude the Obscure reveals that the images and incidents of contrast echoing in the novel. on the one hand,provide implicit rational commentary upon the incidents,characters and value in the novel, and thus bring about the intensity of the narrative and a richer texture; on the other hand, the use of all these images and incidents also illustrates Hardy＇ s philosophical ideas and values： the indifference of God, or the powers that control the universe, to man and his destiny and the resdessness of the modem age.
